Once you have worked out the sort of role the freelancer will play in creating your content series, you will want to build out the Call for Pitches posting that they will submit their applications to. Based on the scenario that you have chosen (read our Decide what job you want the freelancer to do article), there are certain questions to answer in order to fully inform the freelancers of what you are looking for.
Specific questions to answer for Option A (Fully Produced & Editing Videos):
- How many videos are you looking to produce for the series (or the rate of publishing)?
- What types of freelancers, with what experience, are you looking for in terms of experience and style?
- How many pitches do you want or can handle?
- What are the final video lengths?
- What is your deadline for giving freelancers a yes or no? You can select 1 week, 2 weeks, or 1 month, or a “rolling assignment” for an ongoing series.
- How many different locations would they ideally be shooting?
- How many days of shooting do you think it would take?
- How many revisions (if necessary)?
- How much will you pay extra if that # is exceeded?
- What is the kill fee policy after production, 1st cut, 2nd cut, 3rd cut?
Specific question for Option B ( Produced, not Edited, Videos):
- Ideally, how many videos are you looking to produce (or at what rate)?
- How many minutes long with the final video be?
- How many locations do you want the shoot to be in?
- What types of freelancers, with what experience, are you looking for in terms of experience and style?
- What is your deadline for giving freelancers a yes or no? You can select 1 week, 2 weeks, or 1 month, or “rolling assignment” for an ongoing series.
- How much of your team will be working on this?
- Will you credit the freelancer?
- How many days of shooting and pre-production?
- Do you want just select clips that you work out beforehand in the treatment or shot-list, or do you want all the footage?
- Have you worked out a style guide or have examples of the types of videos? This should be worked out.
- What is the kill fee policy if you want to kill the project after it’s shot?
Specific questions to answer for Option C (Produced In-house With Field Producer)
- Ideally, how many videos are you looking to produce (or at what rate)?
- How many minutes long with the final video be?
- How much of your team will be working on this?
- Will you credit the Storyhunter?
- What types of freelancers, with what experience, are you looking for in terms of experience and style?
- What is your deadline for giving freelancers a yes or no? You can select 1 week, 2 weeks, or 1 month.
- How many days of pre-production and production?
- If the days of pre-production and production come out to be what is estimated, how much would you pay?
- If the shoot goes over for a day, how much will you pay as a day rate for extra work?
- Have you worked out a style guide or have examples of the types of videos? This should be worked out.
- What is the kill fee policy if you want to kill the project after it’s shot?
Specific questions to answer for Scenario D (already produced video/footage)
- Will you ask them to reshoot anything?
- Do you want raw footage or a fully produced piece?
