Q. How do I hire story ideas (pitches) or hire freelance professionals and/or production companies?
Whatever your project is, the first step should always be to create a posting on the platform. To begin this process simply click + New Posting. Then, decide whether you are looking for Storyhunters or Story Ideas. Choose the Storyhunters option if you need to contract someone out for a work-for-hire. Choose Story Ideas if you are looking for original pitches from any part of the world. Clients typically select Story Ideas if they want to power an ongoing series and Storyhunters to help with video production, post-production editing, to cover breaking news, or to round out a production crew. Fill out the posting form details and hit Submit. Freelance professionals or production companies that match your criteria are automatically alerted and encouraged to send proposals in response to your posting.
Additional information about hiring can be found here.
Q. What kind of professionals can I hire on Storyhunter?
We have professional freelancers and production companies for all types of brand, creative, and journalistic work. When creating a posting, select the service you need. This will ensure that you’re matched with the right professional for your job. Click here to see what services are currently available.
Q. How can I curate who sees my postings?
We automatically match you with freelance professionals or production companies based on the service you select and the location of your work needed. You then have the ability to limit the audience size of your posting and increase the overall quality of applicants by sliding the ‘curation tool’ from left to right. We recommend selecting Level 1 only in breaking news situations.
Q. Can I manage who sees my posting?
Yes, you can create a “Private posting”. This ensures only invited freelancers you select will have viewing and proposal access to your posting. To invite someone to an posting, you can choose to invite “Only Storyhunters I Invite”, which will allow you to select a freelancer that you previously saved. Learn how to save a freelancer to your list here [anchor link to Searching for Freelancers].
Q. It’s been 24 hours and I have yet to receive proposals from freelancers or production companies in response to my posting. What’s wrong?
More often than not this happens because your range may be too low, and therefore not attractive to our vetted, professional community of freelancers. To get help on setting a budget for your posting needs, get in touch with your account manager or send us a note at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q. I’m getting proposals in response to my posting that don’t seem to match what I’m looking for. What should I do?
Think about re-wording your description. You can edit your posting description by visiting Postings, searching for the Posting in question, clicking the hamburger icon to drop down “Edit” on the particular posting you wish to adjust (read more about how to edit an posting here).
The more thoroughly you describe what you want in your posting, the more likely you’ll receive great proposals. If you are still unhappy with the proposals sent to you after 24 hours, please notify your account manager so we can help you find your match.
