Communication is key when it comes to ensuring a successful project. Here are a few tips on keeping everyone up to date on project production.
Use the Message Thread
The message thread that can be found within every project view should be the main location for all communication about a project. It is the paper trail, and any conversation that happens off the platform between you and the publisher isn’t bound by Storyhunter's Terms of Service. By communicating on the platform, you give us a better chance of providing great customer support in case there is any confusion about the scope of the project you agreed upon.
If you feel there is something off about your communication with a freelancer, you can flag the conversation to our Support Staff.
Keep the Project Updated
More often than not, the scope of the story changes after doing some more reporting and/or having a conversation with an interested publisher. It’s best practice to update pitches by editing them with the newly agreed upon direction and scope before committing to produce the story. This will ensure that everyone agrees in writing before beginning production.
If there are any changes or last minute unavoidable updates while in the midst of production it is very important to make the publisher aware of these too. You should aim to avoid any surprises in order to ensure the best outcome.
Communicate "On the Go"
When boots are on the ground and in the midst of production, it is good practice to keep everyone up to date with how the project is going. The Storyhunter platform is accessible and compatible with all devices that have internet access. If, however, you feel that there may be a situation during production that internet access could be difficult to obtain, it is worthwhile to obtain another form of contact with the publisher/freelancer beforehand. The message thread can be retroactively updated with any decisions made once internet access has been secured again.
You will notice that each time that you are not logged into the platform and are sent a message within a project, you receive an email to let you know. This email includes a snippet of the conversation to remind you of what was being discussed.
You can reply to the new message directly from this email. All you have to do is to reply to the email as you would normally and your message will be sent straight into the project message thread. A very simple way to keep communication going when on the go!
Expenses and Project Payments
All payments must be sent via our Storyhunter easy payment tool. This ensures the freelancer is paid in a timely manner as well as protects your payment. This rule is essential to keeping both sides not only secure, but happy! A violation of our payment terms can cause both parties to be removed from the platform. If you have any questions regarding payment methods and practices, please send a message to support@storyhunter.com.
